Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDG) Cell

S.D.S. Government College for Women, Ratia (Haryana)

In pursuance of the guidelines of the Government of India and the Department of Higher Education, Haryana, the college has established a Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDG) Cell to ensure equity, inclusivity, and equal opportunities for students belonging to socio-economically weaker backgrounds.

The Cell is committed to creating an enabling environment where students from underprivileged sections of society feel supported academically, socially, and emotionally. It aims to bridge gaps, remove barriers, and provide necessary guidance and facilities for their holistic development.

Objectives of the Cell

  • To identify students belonging to socio-economically disadvantaged groups.

  • To ensure proper implementation of government policies, schemes, and scholarships meant for SEDG students.

  • To provide counseling, guidance, and mentorship for academic and career advancement.

  • To conduct awareness programmes, orientation sessions, and capacity-building workshops.

  • To create a safe and inclusive campus environment free from discrimination.

Functions of the Cell

  • Assisting students in availing scholarships, financial aid, and other welfare schemes.

  • Organizing remedial classes, special lectures, and skill development programmes.

  • Sensitizing the college community towards inclusivity and equity.

  • Monitoring grievances and addressing issues related to socio-economic disadvantages.

  • Coordinating with state and central government agencies for the benefit of SEDG students.

Composition of the Cell

The Cell is chaired by the Principal of the college and coordinated by senior faculty members. Student representatives are also included to ensure participatory functioning.
